Horizon Shopping Center in Bergen operates a large commercial facility with significant and continuous energy consumption. Facing rising electricity costs and growing pressure to demonstrate environmental responsibility, the center needed a large-scale renewable energy solution that could be deployed without structural modifications — making a ballast-mounted rooftop system the natural fit.
Solcellekraft designed and installed a 477.92 kWp ballast-mounted rooftop solar PV system — 824 panels laid across the mall's roof without a single roof penetration — completed in June 2024. The system is expected to generate 313,800 kWh of renewable electricity annually, directly powering the center's operations with clean energy produced on-site in the heart of Vestland county.
For a high-footfall commercial venue in one of Norway's largest cities, this installation is both a smart financial decision and a visible commitment to the energy transition sweeping Scandinavia's retail sector.
